Because of the apparent, underlying instability of the country, the nature of its demographics, its literacy rate, and all this compounded by the fact that they have a pile of nuclear weapons and the delivery systems to make them count, that’s why we have to deal with them. All the above is up and beyond any concerns about the northwest, the Taliban, and Al Queda.
