Sainsbury’s offers a similar loyalty scheme, launched in 1996 after then chairman David Sainsbury realised the effect the Clubcard had on Tesco’s sales. Sainsbury’s Nectar card, used by 19 million customers, gives two points for every £1 spent in store. But each point is worth only half a penny, so 500 nectar points can be exchanged for £2.50. These points can be redeemed in one of Sainsbury’s participating retailers, including Argos, or Vue cinemas. If you have 500 points you can get £2.50 off the next film you see at Vue if you so choose.
