Thatâs what the national Common Core standard that the tests are aligned with for the first time this year are all about. These new benchmarks, which a majority of states have adopted, are aimed at building the critical-thinking and problem-solving skills students will need in college and when they enter the workforce. For years, we were labeling students proficient in math and reading only to find that when they entered college, they werenât ready for that higher level of work.
